1. Find the right mentor

Step-by-step mentor search
- Log in to Orient.
- Open your dashboard.
- Select Find Mentors from the sidebar.
- Use the search field to search by name, title, company, or expertise.
- Use category and subcategory filters if available.

What to look for in a mentor
Choose a mentor based on:
- Their current role and company.
- Their industry and areas of expertise.
- Their career summary.
- Their coaching rate.
- Available time slots that fit your schedule.
- Reviews, if available.
- Whether their background matches your specific goal.

Match your goal to the right mentor
| Your goal | Look for mentors with experience in | | --- | --- | | Resume feedback | Your target industry, role, or hiring process | | Interview preparation | The role type, interview format, or company style you are targeting | | Career exploration | Broad industry experience and strong communication style | | Career switching | A similar transition path or experience mentoring non-traditional candidates | | Portfolio review | Design, product, engineering, data, or creative work relevant to your field | | Networking guidance | Industry-specific experience and practical market knowledge |
Before booking
Write down what you want from the session. A clear goal helps the mentor prepare and makes the session more useful.
Good session goals:
- Review my resume for product analyst roles.
- Help me prepare for a product management interview.
- Explain how to break into consulting from a non-business background.
- Review my UX portfolio and help me prioritize improvements.
- Help me decide between data analytics and product management.
- Give feedback on my behavioral interview stories.
Less helpful goals:
- I need career advice.
- Tell me what to do.
- Help me get a job.
- I am confused about everything.
If your goal feels broad, narrow it before booking. A broad goal can still work, but the mentor needs enough context to guide you.
Suggested screenshot placeholder: Add a screenshot of the Search/Find Mentors page here, showing the search bar, category filters, and mentor cards.
2. Book a session
You can request a 1-hour mentorship session from a mentor’s profile. Your payment is authorized at checkout, but you are only charged if the mentor confirms the request.

- Open a mentor profile.
- In Book a Session, select a date.
- Select an available time.
- Select Book Session.
- Review the Confirm Your Booking screen.
- Add Notes (optional) to describe your goals, focus area, or questions.
- Review the Payment Summary.
- Select Proceed to Payment.
- Complete Stripe checkout.
What happens after checkout
After checkout, your booking request is sent to the mentor.
If the mentor confirms:
- You are charged.
- The booking status becomes Confirmed.
- You receive confirmation, invoice, and meeting details by email and dashboard.
- You can join the session from Bookings in your dashboard.
If the mentor declines:
- You are not charged.
- The authorization is released automatically.
- Funds usually return according to your card issuer and payment network timing.
Writing a useful note for the mentor
Use the notes field to help the mentor prepare. Be specific and practical.
A helpful note usually includes:
- Your current background.
- Your target role or industry.
- The main problem you want help with.
- Any deadline or upcoming interview.
- What you want to leave the session with.
Example:
I am applying for junior product roles and would like help improving my case interview answers. I also want feedback on whether my resume shows enough product thinking. My target roles are associate product manager and product analyst roles in Toronto.
Another example:
I am in my final year of university and trying to decide between consulting and product management. I would like to understand what the day-to-day work is like, what skills I should build first, and how to choose internships that keep both options open.
Avoid notes like:
Need help. Please advise.
The more context you provide, the more prepared the mentor can be.
If you are asked to log in
You must be logged in to submit a booking request. If prompted, log in and return to the mentor profile.
3. Manage bookings and payments
Your Bookings page shows requested, upcoming, past, and cancelled sessions.

| Tab | What it shows | | --- | --- | | Upcoming | Confirmed future sessions. | | Unconfirmed | Booking requests waiting for mentor confirmation. | | Past | Completed sessions. | | Cancelled | Cancelled sessions. |
View booking details
- Open your dashboard.
- Select Bookings.
- Find the booking.
- Select View Details.
The details modal may show:
- Date and time.
- Payment status.
- Your note.
- Mentor contact email, once the booking is confirmed and the mentor provided one.

Booking statuses
| Status | Meaning | | --- | --- | | Pending Confirmation | You submitted a request and are waiting for the mentor to accept or decline. | | Confirmed | The mentor accepted. You have been charged and meeting details are available. | | Cancelled | The booking was canceled. | | Completed | The session is complete. |
Payment authorization
At checkout, your payment method is authorized or placed on hold. You are not charged unless the mentor confirms your booking request.
This matters because booking requests are not automatically confirmed. The mentor needs to accept the request first.
Payment status and receipts

Or:
I am deciding between consulting and product management. I would like to understand the differences in day-to-day work, recruiting preparation, and which path fits my background better.

- Whether the advice was clear and actionable.
- How prepared the mentor was.
- Whether the mentor understood your goal.
- Whether you would recommend the mentor to someone with a similar goal.
Example:
I booked this mentor for product management interview preparation. The session was focused, practical, and easy to follow. We reviewed my case interview structure, identified where my answers were too vague, and ended with specific practice steps. I would recommend this mentor to early-career candidates preparing for PM interviews.
Avoid sharing:
- Private or sensitive personal information.
- Confidential company information.
- Offensive, discriminatory, or inappropriate content.
- Details unrelated to the mentorship session.
Book the same mentor again
From your dashboard:
- Open Overview.
- Look for Your Mentor.
- Select Book again.
You can also go to Bookings, open a past booking, and select the mentor’s name if it links to their profile.
Keep building momentum
Before booking again, write down:
- What changed since your last session.
- Which advice you acted on.
- Where you are still stuck.
- What you want help with next.
This helps your next session go deeper.
